In 1993 when my daughter finished summer camp at Art Station, she told me "Debbie is going to teach a big hand little hand class" I thought what a great way to bond with her. As an older parent owning and running a busy restaurant I felt it would give us quality time together. The tactile experience was exhilarating. Clay is malleable and allows you to explore what can be created if you open your mind and play. So it started and I became hooked. I started taking classes and workshops with renown potters. After several years of attempting to perfect my techniques I started teaching at Art Station. I liked seeing the smile on my students faces when they discovered the pleasurable experience of creating something from a lump of clay. I tried to teach as many techniques as possible to encourage confidence; to explore and create. 90% of my current work is with stoneware clay. I want to create pottery to be used in everyday life that is beautiful, functional and elegant that will enhance our everyday life. My work will be held and used. I use multiple glazes applied over lapping one another to create a "story" for the eye. Some are layered and then blended.
